Work Notes: Sproutcore and Cappuccino

With the development of the iPad and other mobile devices, that are not just smaller laptops with 3G, and apples refusal to support flash, it seems the stage is set for UI architects who are JavaScript ninjas. We are moving away from flash and flex development and heading into the world of sproutcore and maybe cappuccino.

These are new frameworks we are adopting at work. Cappuccino seems quite nice with some advanced demos like 280slides. But there seem to be some deficiencies with it on iPad. But sproutcore looks to be like winner of the show down, because of apples adoption of it for the MobileMe project.

I brought my ipad to work to show Aaron that there is no way to activate keyboard in the 280 slides demo. And his response is that there is just a different “touch” library we need to load, and we’re done. Jqtouch was one such thing which he mentionned.

I am curious about using my iPad to store files.

The longer I am in possession of this device the more I like it and wish to reverse engineer it.

Once again Kevin offered to jail brake my iPad.

He says that it will let me download all the apps for free. He charges a 100 bucks to do it.

One thing I would love is to make some alterations to the iPad keyboard. The complete lack of arrow keys and poor responsiveness of the Notes app to touch for navigation is a real time waster.

I find myself replacing whole words for just one character mistake. Or pressing on the screen four or five times just trying to get to the right position.
